The American College of Emergency Physicians Recognizes Dr. Don Lefkowits With Meritorious Service Award

Colorado’s Chapter of the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) recognized Donald J. Lefkowits, MD, FACEP, with the Meritorious Service Award for his long history of service to Colorado ACEP and Emergency Medicine.

The Meritorious Service Award is meant to recognize achievements that have enhanced Colorado’s healthcare system and the profession of Emergency Medicine. Created in 2009, the award recognizes the significant achievements and dedication that Dr. Lefkowits has provided to Emergency Medicine.

Dr. Lefkowits has practiced at Rose Medical Center since 1984. During his tenure at Rose, Dr. Lefkowits served as a member of the hospital Board of Trustees, President of the Medical staff, Chair of the Credentials Committee, and Chair of the Peer Review committee. He supported hospital and medical staff functions by chairing fair hearings, providing crisis management and press interactions, and developing and nurturing physician leadership programs. As Medical Director of the Emergency Department, Dr. Lefkowits oversaw a growth in volume from 30,000 annual visits to 45,000. He put in place state of the art Cardiac, Stroke and Trauma alert programs and helped the Rose ED lead the way in programs to enhance ED throughput and patient safety and satisfaction metrics.  Dr. Lefkowits currently serves on the Colorado Medical Board.

Dr. Lefkowits said, “after 37 years and roughly 175,000 patients, it’s a real honor to be recognized by my peers. I’m still in awe of the privilege we have as Emergency Physicians to help people in their time of need and be part of a team of health care providers trying to make a difference. ”

The award was presented on January 18, 2017, at the Colorado ACEP Annual Meeting in Denver.
